This December the South African artist Nathan Gates – winner Africa ArtBox 2017 – shared with the public Dakar his project developed during his artistic residency in Plataforma Bogota the months of April and May. With two conferences that took place on December 13th and 14th at the Cervantes Institute of Dakar and at the Higher Institute of Arts and Cultures of the Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar, TRIAS CULTURE closed the first edition of the Africa ArtBox Award
These conferences have completed the enriching program developed between June 2017 and December 2018, which had several activities: meetings with Senegalese students and artists at JOKKOLABS, the Higher Institute of Management (IAM Dakar), the University Agency of La Francophonie (AUF Dakar), as well as the exhibition of the finalist works of the contest at the Cervantes Institute and at the Goethe Institute in Dakar. These activities that took place during the year 2017 were followed by several international events during the year 2018, including:
The presentation of Africa ArtBox at the Festival of African Cinema of Tarifa (Spain) the month of April, and the month of June the exhibition of the results of the laboratory workshop and the project developed by Nathan Gates during his residency in Bogotá (in Colombia) as well as a presentation at the International Market for Digital Art (MIAN) in Montreal (Canada).
With more than 150 registered artists from 25 different countries, this first edition of Africa ArtBox confirms that the new generation of contemporary artists in Africa is conquering territories across the continent and affirming spaces in the international scenario of digital art .
The Africa ArtBox team can only celebrate the results of these two years of collective work. Thanks to the artists, partners and all the professionals in Africa, Europe and Latin America who contributed to the success of this great adventure.
